What is a Service Enterprise?

A Service Enterprise is an organization that uses volunteers and their skills across all levels of the organization to successfully deliver its mission. This national initiative, led by Points of Light, the world’s largest organization dedicated to volunteer service, helps nonprofits rethink the way they use volunteers to address community needs.

Research conducted by the TCC Group and Deloitte found that the ten key characteristics below are common among the volunteer programs of Service Enterprise organizations:

The benefits of getting your organization certified:

  • Certified organizations that engage volunteers have almost half the median budget of their peers without volunteers.
  • Every $1 invested in effective volunteer engagement yields $3-$6, which is a 300%-600% return for certified organizations.
  • Nationally certified organizations are listed as such through prominent donor avenues including Points of Light, GuideStar, etc.
  • In response to the changing environment, we have altered the Service Enterprise Certification Process to be completely virtual, allowing access to organizations from all over the state of Colorado to participate.

Spark the Change recently started our 6th cohort. We are excited for the organizations who are taking part in this transformative process.

Curious if Service Enterprise is right for you?

Take the Service Enterprise Readiness Survey!

This survey will help you determine whether your organization is ready to tackle this rigorous program. While exciting, informative and transformative, it does require a team of staff and volunteers to successfully complete the steps of bench-marking, training, work plan development and executive, and portfolio development for certification. You will need to plan on 12 months of coached work. Keep an eye out for our next cohort! Recruitment will begin in late 2021.
