JOB DESCRIPTION TITLE: Volunteer Coordinator

REPORTS TO: Executive Director

JOB SUMMARY:

The Volunteer Coordinator/Construction Assistant is responsible for all aspects of the volunteer program and assisting the Construction Manager with daily construction tasks. This includes the recruitment, processing, education, retention and coordination of all Warrior House Makeover construction project volunteers.

The Volunteer Coordinator/Construction Assistant works closely with HFW’s  home sponsors to coordinate sponsor volunteers and coordinates home dedications. The position works closely with all staff members and volunteers to create a positive and productive atmosphere for volunteers. This position reports directly to the Construction Supervisor.

 CORE RESPONSIBILITIES: Volunteer Program

· Produce written informational and educational materials for volunteer outreach

· Respond to all individual volunteer inquiries

· Meet with construction staff

· Interview and place volunteers for specific needs such as committee, office and special events

 · Scheduling of groups and skilled volunteers

· Maintain volunteer records and statistics of number of volunteers and number of hours served

· Develop and implement formal and informal volunteer appreciation program

· Develop, maintain and evaluate “regular” construction volunteer programs to retain on-going volunteers

· Monitor and assess the need for volunteer services and suggest program improvements.

· Prepare job descriptions for volunteer positions

· Monitor volunteer satisfaction

· Oversee food, staging and related logistics for builds

· Ensure that volunteer liability waivers are signed and filed

· Work with staff to handle any volunteer concerns or issues

· Provide up-to-date information for the construction and volunteer pages of the affiliate website

· Manage community service volunteers from local jurisdictions

· Coordinate activities for youth volunteers (Boy/Girl Scouts, etc.)

· Recruit, train, and schedule site hosts Construction

· General construction tasks related to the building of a Warrior’s home

· Responsible for other tasks as required for successful completion of construction projects and management of resources

· Motivating and providing on-site instruction and leadership to volunteer work groups

· Assist with purchasing of materials, tools, and supplies

· Adhere to construction schedule and budget

· Ensure volunteer safety and enforce all applicable safety guidelines on construction site Sponsors

· Meet with home sponsors to develop volunteer coordination plan

· Coordinate the scheduling of sponsor volunteers during home construction process

· Plan and coordinate home dedication ceremonies Other

· Work closely with sponsors, HFHI and other organizations on special projects and builds

· Represent Houses for Warriors to the community through community presentations

· Establish and maintain effective relationships with sponsors, HFW, and the community

· Supervise volunteers in the office who assist with data entry, thank-you’s and other tasks to support the volunteer department

· Promote teamwork and foster motivation and understanding

· Contribute to newsletter for volunteer related articles

· Assist staff members in appreciation efforts for office volunteers

· Coordinate volunteers for booths and fairs

· Other responsibilities as assigned by Construction Manager KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES:

· Enthusiasm, teamwork focused and strong customer service orientation

· Well organized and detail oriented

· Effective leadership and team building skills

· Self-motivated, able to work independently with minimal supervision

· Possess tact, diplomacy and flexibility

· Good supervisory skills

· Excellent written and verbal communication skills

· Project management skills

· Ability to multi-task EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE:

· BA/BS Degree

· 2 years’ experience in the field of volunteer management or equivalent combination of experience, education and training desired

· Personal volunteer experience

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORKING CONDITIONS:

This position is split between an office and construction worksite. Outside meetings and presentations are frequently required. Some evening and weekend meetings required in locations and times when public transportation is unavailable. Typical work week is a flexible 40/hrs., Tuesday-Saturday.

Occasional special projects are required. The ability to lift fifty pounds and perform manual labor related to the construction of a home is required.
