Be the Voice for an Abused or Neglected Child - Become a CASA Volunteer!
CASA, Court-Appointed Special Advocates, is a volunteer-based, nonprofit organization that trains and supervises community members to represent the best interests of child victims of physical, sexual, emotional abuse and neglect that are currently in the judicial system.
A Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) is a trained volunteer who represents the best interests of child victims of physical, sexual, or emotional abuse and neglect that are currently in the judicial system. CASA Volunteers are supervised by CASA team members and work alongside the child's legal and professional team. They ensure that the child's physical, mental, educational and emotional needs are being met, and advocate for the child in court, all the while supporting them in their journey to find a safe and permanent home. In Adams and Broomfield Counties alone, there are over 1,100 children that need a loving and caring CASA.
Potential CASA Volunteers complete an online application, interview, and 30 hours of pre-service training (15 hours supplemental homework, 15 hours in-class). Please note that we have adapted this process to take place virtually during COVID-19. A successful CASA Volunteer is mature, stable, open-minded, empathetic, collaborative, and confident. They also have an ability to problem-solve and have strong written and verbal communication skills.
Please note that in order to become a CASA Volunteers, you must be 21+ years of age, must pass a criminal background check, and must have lived in the United States for the past 7 years.
