Food Bank of the Rockies
Food Bank of the Rockies (FBR) is the largest, private, hunger-relief organization in Colorado, distributing over 130,000 meals daily through over 1,000 hunger-relief partner agencies, as well as FBR's many direct service programs. These programs include: Kid's Cafe, providing prepared meals to children at child care facilities. Totes of Hope, providing discreet backpacks of food to children for the weekend, when other nutrition programs are not available. USDA programs, such as the Commodity Supplemental Food Program (CSFP) that provides a monthly food allowance to seniors. Denver's Table Food Rescue Program, that sends refrigerated trucks to collect surplus food from retailers. Mobile Pantry, that distributes food in rural communities and under-served urban communities. Each month, a group from Metro Volunteers helps FBR with packing food boxes, reclamation of food donated by individuals and food retailers, or (most often) distribution of food boxes under the CSFP. This work is not demanding, but volunteers should be comfortable lifting boxes weighing about 20 pounds, and should expect to be working outside some of the time. The FBR warehouse is located near I-70 and Havana, and volunteers need to arrive between 8:30 and 8:45. The work finishes by 12:30, although volunteers will often be able to leave earlier than that, depending on how busy we are. NOTE: FBR requires that volunteers wear closed toe shoes and a shirt with sleeves. NOTE: Since the number of volunteers I can bring is restricted, this project is not suitable for groups of more than 2 or 3 people. If you have any questions, please contact the project coordinator, Lindsay Packer (click on the email link below).

Littleton Night Lights Child Care Volunteer
This is an opportunity to serve as a Night Lights Volunteer. Night Lights is a respite care organization in Colorado for families with children with special needs and their siblings and simply would not exist without community support. We rely on our volunteers heavily for our Night Lights evenings, as they are paired 1:1 with the Night Lights children, and they also help in each of the activity rooms. Volunteers may be community members who are 18 years of age or older and may include people from all professions, backgrounds, and skill-levels. The requirements to volunteer are to have a passion for making the world a better place for children, training and passing a background check. Night Lights is a 5-hour commitment one Friday night each month. We ask for volunteers to commit to at least 8 months out of the year as the number of children we can accept each Night Lights evening depends on the number of volunteers we have. The families and children appreciate seeing familiar faces. There is no therapy or work during the evening, you just need to be a buddy to a child and watch them as they play and even join in. Experience is not necessary when volunteering with Night Lights, we will train you and be with you the entire evening. If you are unfamiliar with Night Lights and our mission, please visit us at https://nightlightskids.org and watch some of the videos. Night Lights in Littleton meets the second Friday of every month from 5:30 to 10:00. Volunteers are not expected to come every month but are expected to be there for the entire time on the months they do attend.
