Spark Speaker Series: Empowering Aging in Colorado
Launching April 10th, the new Spark Speaker Series: Empowering Aging in Colorado is a monthly event featuring speakers on topics pertaining to older adults and their health. We will address issues such as nutrition, memory lapse vs. memory loss, staying active, improving well-being, volunteering, and much more. All are welcome!

April 10th: Leila Hirlter, Center Toward Self-Reliance, "The Importance of Happiness for Older Adults", Nancy Harris, Spark RSVP Manager, "The Value of Volunteering for Older Adults", and Josie Boynton, Spark RSVP Director, "The New Focus Areas of RSVP."
May 8th: Barbara Kruse Retired Biology Teacher, “The Biology of Happiness,” Exactly what is happiness? There is a biological explanation for it. Neurotransmitters are responsible for the feeling of happiness. We will explore that concept.
June 12th: Jim Grant, Psy. D, Clinical Psychologist, SLV Behavioral Health Group, “I can’t remember. Am I normal or not?” We’ll talk about memory loss, what is normal and what is not. That is, as long as I don’t forget before then.
July 10th: Deborah Palmer, MM, MT-BC, Board Certified Music Therapist, “Music's Influence on Aging and Well-Being,” This presentation will explore the health benefits of using music to age well, including cognitive benefits, emotional impact, physical benefits, social connection and engagement, and a brief overview of music therapy.
August 7th: Katy Baer, MPH, RD, Community Registered Dietitian, “Practical Tips for Eating Healthfully on a Limited Budget,” Description: Eating healthfully on a limited budget can be challenging. Learn practical ways to cut food costs and still eat healthfully and deliciously!
