Information on Internship Supervision:
As part of our mission to increase access to mental health care for low-income Coloradans and part of our workforce development initiatives, the Supervisor Program aims to support graduate level interns and host sites within the community. We pair host sites with volunteer clinical supervisors who can enable a graduate internship and expand an organization’s capacity.
How it Works:
- Organizations interested in having a volunteer supervisor must become official host sites of the Mental Wellness Program
- Host sites must be connected to a graduate program directly and register as an internship site (our staff can assist you in making these connections)
- After an assessment process, the host site signs an agreement with the Mental Wellness Program and is referred a volunteer supervisor
- Our supervisors will register with the appropriate university and focus on providing clinical supervision-
- Host sites maintain ultimate responsibility for providing “task” supervision- e.g. creating the internship description, delineating the intern’s role and tasks, providing all necessary infrastructure to provide said tasks (including documentation and appropriate storage), evaluating the body of the intern’s work and ensuring that the intern is meeting agency standards of care
- Interns serve as “volunteers” of Spark the Change Colorado and must submit to our screening process, including a background check.
- The Mental Wellness Program tracks the impact of our Supervision Program and will require the Intern and Supervisor to submit a monthly data form
- Spark the Change Colorado is not an internship site and does not accept interns directly. We enable internships in the community by providing host sites with volunteer supervisors who meet the university’s requirements.
- Interns seeking placements are encouraged to seek out community agencies and refer those agencies to us if they are interested in becoming a host site in order to have a volunteer supervisor.
- Personnel of graduate programs are welcome to contact us to learn more about partnering and how they can refer organizations to us to enable more internships in the field.
- While we welcome graduate student and university inquiries into our services, our staff ultimately need to speak to a host site directly in order to initiate the supervisor program and its benefits.
